Healthy Food Access is the Heart of Our Mission
Oasis Fresh Foods Market was established to address a long-standing gap in access to fresh, healthy, everyday groceries in Indian Head and surrounding Southern Maryland communities.
As a full-service, locally owned grocery store, Oasis is committed to providing consistent, affordable access to nutritious food options that support the health and well-being of the community we serve.
Our Healthy Food Commitment
At least 20% of our retail floor space and food inventory is dedicated to healthy food items, in accordance with Maryland healthy food access guidelines.
This commitment is reflected in both:
-
The physical layout of our store and food display space, and
-
The dollar value of inventory available for sale
Oasis maintains this threshold year-round and continues to expand and refine its healthy food offerings based on community needs and availability.
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
A selection of fresh produce, including seasonal offerings and regional sourcing when available. Produce is stocked daily and displayed prominently within the store.
Whole Grains and Healthy Pantry Staples
Items such as whole grain breads, rice, oats, dried beans, canned vegetables, healthy cooking oils, and minimally processed pantry essentials.
Fresh and Frozen Proteins
A range of protein options including fresh and frozen meats, poultry, seafood, eggs, beans, and other lean or plant-based protein sources.
Dairy and Refrigerated Essentials
Milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs, and other refrigerated staples that support balanced, everyday meals.
Accessibility and Community Focus
Oasis Fresh Foods Market is open daily, year-round, providing reliable access to healthy food for local residents, families, military members, veterans and seniors.
The store is designed to serve Indian Head and nearby communities that have historically faced limited proximity to full-service grocery options, helping reduce the need for long-distance travel to access fresh food.
Ongoing Commitment
Oasis continues to invest in:
-
Inventory expansion of non-prepared healthy foods
-
Refrigeration and storage that supports fresh food availability
-
Systems and infrastructure that improve affordability and access
Our goal is not only to meet healthy food access standards — but to sustain them as a permanent part of the community.
