If you’ve been following the story of the Community Garden, you know it’s a project rooted in hope, partnership and the shared vision of creating a place where the people of Indian Head can gather and grow together.
Earlier this year, we shared the disappointing news that anticipated federal funding for the garden was withdrawn. While that delay was unexpected, it didn’t dampen our determination — or the community’s spirit.
Thanks to the steadfast support of The Wills Group and the Town of Indian Head, the dream of the Community Garden is alive and moving forward. Together, we’ve adapted the plans into a three-phase approach that will unfold over the next two years.
Phase 1: Fall 2025
This first stage focuses on preparing the land and building the foundation of the garden:
- Clearing and cleaning the property
- Installing raised bed planters for community use
- Creating natural amphitheater seating
- Building a footbridge that will provide additional access to the garden
Phase 2: Fall 2026
In the second phase, the garden will take on new dimension with the creation of a natural labyrinth with native Maryland plantings and a water feature. The labyrinth will offer a peaceful space for reflection and quiet meditation.
Phase 3: Fall 2027
The final stage will bring the garden to full bloom:
- Winding pathways to explore the garden
- Sculptures, benches and educational signs throughout
- Fruit trees and bushes to nurture and enjoy
This phased plan means that the garden will take shape gradually, each step bringing meaningful new features that the community can begin to enjoy almost immediately.
A Shared Effort, A Shared Future
Projects like this aren’t possible without true collaboration. We are deeply grateful to The Wills Group and the Town of Indian Head for their financial support, logistical help, employee volunteer hours and constant encouragement. Their commitment to Indian Head and its future has been a guiding light in keeping this project alive.
Oasis will also be launching fundraising efforts to help bring the Community Garden to full fruition. More details will be shared in the coming weeks, and we hope you’ll join us in building something truly special for our town.
