When you visit Oasis to do your grocery shopping, you’ve likely seen the “Community Garden Coming Soon” sign at the back of the parking lot.
Behind the sign sits a beautiful, undeveloped piece of land, awaiting transformation. We had planned to begin the project in March and conclude by early summer.
We’re disappointed to share that development of the Community Garden is now on hold.
Federal funds officially awarded for the Community Garden are now being withheld. We are unsure when or if the government will release those funds.
Still, we are not letting this bump in the road deter us. We have overcome obstacles throughout the process of bringing Oasis to life.
Jame Toribio and his team at The Outdoor Living Company have been amazing in the planning of the Community Garden. They continue to look for ways to keep us moving forward until funds are available.
In recent months, we’ve gathered a strong group of volunteers who are excited to contribute to the Community Garden project.
So we will move forward with cleaning up the space, forming committees and planning the logistics of how the garden can be utilized to its maximum potential.
Our plans for the Community Garden remain grand. We envision …
- An outdoor garden labyrinth made with mostly native plants and a mix of herbs and flowers for the aroma
- Fruit trees lining the perimeter of the area, including apple, pear, peach and plum trees
- 22 raised garden beds where residents can grow their own fruits and vegetables
- A water feature for soothing sounds and ambiance
- An amphitheater for performances, yoga classes and other gatherings
- Garden sculptures and art installations
For now, none of these plans are changing. Our community is strong. Our team is committed to this project.
It just might take a little longer than we hoped.
